For this personal project, I wanted to create a storyboard sequence that rewrites the story of Beauty and and Beast. In this retelling, Beauty's name is Breygha and she's just a little girl who lives in the highlands with her Da. But in the woods not too far from their home, a rumored beast lurks. What will happen when Breygha's dear Da wanders into those very woods?
Character and creature designs:
Our main character Breagha is more of a wild child. She had wild, fiery hair but kind eyes to show her personality through her design. She is around 12 years old and isn't scared of an adventure.
Da is Breagha's father. He is an older man who survives as a hunter gatherer. I integrated a lot of earthy colors in his design so he would fit in with nature when he's out finding food for his family. But Breagha got her red hair and green eyes from her Da. Da loves Breagha more than life itself and doesn't know what he'd do without her.
This is the subject of all of the town's people's stories, the Beast. The beast's fur and feathers are colored like the bark of the trees in his forest. When he's lurking between the trees, the only think you'll see are his 4 eyes staring back at you from the shadows. He is protective of the forest and feels a sense of justice in making sure it feels peaceful. He may look scary or evil, but deep down you'll find that he's quite the opposite.
